What should an interior design company in Damascus give you before the finishing starts?
Kenania is an interior design company in Damascus for apartments, villas, restaurants, shops and gardens across Damascus and Rif Dimashq, working for families in the city and for Syrians abroad.
Many homes in Damascus are still finished the traditional way. The contractor designs as the work goes, the walls go up, then the ceilings, and only then does someone ask where the lights should have been. A complete design reverses that order. Walls, electrical points, plumbing, ceilings and joinery are fixed on paper first, so the finishing crew prices and builds a plan instead of improvising one, and the cost can be estimated before work begins.
As an interior design company in Damascus, our designers and architects work in a fixed order. We visit the apartment or villa, agree the layout, develop the spaces in 3D, then issue execution drawings, a material schedule and a bill of quantities. We do not sell the finishing ourselves, so those drawings are written to protect your budget, and no contractor’s margin is built into them.
A Damascus design has to account for more than style: electrical layouts that allow for solar or battery backup, water tanks and pumps that can be reached for service, and finishes that local workshops know how to install and repair. When the brief calls for it, we bring in Damascene detail, stone, inlaid wood and ornament, in the spirit of the Islamic-style majlis we designed for the Green Valley office in Dubai. When it calls for modern or classic-modern, the drawings are just as precise.
If you live outside Syria and are renovating a family home in Damascus, the project can run online: reviews on video calls, 3D you can approve from anywhere, and site visits by our Damascus team at the milestones set in the contract. We take projects across Damascus and Rif Dimashq, from Malki, Abu Rummaneh and Mezzeh to Yaafour and Sabboura, and in Latakia, Homs and Aleppo.
Every set we issue as an interior design company in Damascus covers the architecture and the interiors. Structural changes and permit drawings are certified by an engineer registered with the Syrian engineers’ syndicate, and we coordinate with yours directly.

Projects Damascus clients ask about
Projects that show how we work as an interior design company in Damascus: a commercial landscape in the city, and majlis and villa interiors designed elsewhere.

Commercial landscape, Damascus
Gardens, water features and walkways between the buildings, designed in 2015 for how the place will look years after handover.

Islamic-style majlis and office, Green Valley Dubai
Arches, carved screens and a crystal ceiling: majlis, reception and meeting rooms designed in 2017.

Neo-classical villa interior, Kuala Lumpur
Reception rooms in teal marble and gold, with bespoke joinery. October 2017.
How a Damascus project runs
Four stages. Each one closes with your written approval before the next begins.
01
Site visit & brief
We visit the apartment or villa, check or measure the plan, and confirm scope, fee and timeline in a written proposal.
02
Layout
Walls, furniture and circulation are agreed on the plan before any 3D work.
03
3D design
Photorealistic 3D of the spaces in the contract, with materials and lighting revised until you approve them.
04
Drawings & site support
Execution drawings, a material schedule and a BOQ for your finishing contractor, then site visits at agreed milestones.
How we quote in Syria
As an interior design company in Damascus, we quote every project as a fixed fee for a written scope, sent within two working days of receiving the plan and photos. Three things set the number.
Area and floors
The fee follows the square metres and the number of floors; an apartment with its roof terrace or garden is quoted as one project.
Stages and 3D views
Layout only, layout and 3D, or the full package with execution drawings and BOQ. The proposal prices each stage and names every 3D view.
Site visits
The contract sets the visits during the finishing, including for owners who follow the project from abroad.
Engineering certification for permits and any structural study are provided by a syndicate-registered engineer and listed separately.
What an interior design company in Damascus delivers
Drawings a local contractor can build from, with the 3D as a step on the way.
An interior design company in Damascus works within real constraints: materials available in the local market, power cuts that shape lighting and cooling choices, and contractors who build from drawings rather than from 3D views. Our package for a Damascus apartment, villa or shop therefore ends with an execution set: wall and ceiling plans, lighting and electrical layouts, plumbing points, floor patterns, wall elevations, joinery details and a material schedule that names products you can actually buy in Damascus.
The 3D stage stays, because owners decide better when they can see the room. It is drawn on top of an approved 2D layout, and the execution drawings follow it.
In Damascus the material schedule matters more than usual. A model that appears in a render may be gone from the market a month later, so for each item we name two local alternatives with the same specification, and the contractor can keep building without coming back to the design.
- A site visit to measure and photograph the unit as built
- An approved 2D layout before any 3D work
- Photorealistic 3D of the contracted rooms
- Execution drawings and a material schedule sourced from the Syrian market
- Site visits with the contractor when each main stage is finished, to check the work against the drawings

Damascus homes: reading the building before drawing the plan
Damascus mixes apartments from the 1970s and 1980s, newer buildings in Mezzeh, Kafr Sousa and Yaafour, and family houses with gardens, and each type raises different questions. Older apartments usually gain most from a new kitchen position and a merged living and dining space, newer ones from ceilings, lighting and storage, and houses from the garden and the link between the sitting rooms and the courtyard. That is why every project starts with a site visit: we read the building first and propose the plan second.
Traditional elements of the Ancient City of Damascus can be quoted in a modern plan when the owner wants them: the ablaq bands of stone in two alternating colours, the painted wooden ceilings, the fountain in the courtyard. We draw them as considered details and avoid pastiche.
When a house has a garden, we design it with the house: paths, an outdoor seating area, lighting and planting suited to the Damascus climate and to the shortage of water in summer, as in the commercial landscape published on this site. In a Damascus house the garden is used as another room.

How an interior design company in Damascus plans for power and water
Power cuts are part of daily life in Damascus, so the electrical plan starts from them. We split the lighting into separate circuits and mark the essential ones, which keep running on batteries or solar power while the rest of the house waits for the grid. Fittings are chosen for low consumption, because every watt counts when the backup system is carrying the load.
The batteries or solar panels get a fixed place in the electrical plan from the first layout, with a route for their cables. Added at the end, they usually land on a balcony or a wall in plain view.
Water is planned the same way. Tanks and pumps are drawn where a technician can reach them for service without dismantling a ceiling or a kitchen. Finishes are chosen so local workshops can install and repair them, because a material that needs an imported part becomes a problem the first time it breaks.

Shops, restaurants and websites for Damascus businesses
Local businesses come to us for more than the interior. A restaurant needs a plan, a brand and a menu; a shop needs a fit-out and a sign; a manufacturer needs a website with its catalogue. In Damascus we designed the commercial landscape published on this site, and with BIGBANG IT Solutions we designed the websites of Syrian food brands such as Sidi Hisham and Massa Foods.
The same team handles the space and the identity, so a business opens with one visual language on the door, the menu and the screen. A restaurant owner briefs one interior design company in Damascus once, for the interior, the logo and the website, and works to one timeline.

What the contract should say before the first payment
Points worth seeing in writing before you sign with any interior design company in Damascus.
- The scope: which spaces, how many 3D views and which drawings are delivered
- The order of stages, with an approved 2D layout before any 3D
- The number of revision rounds at each stage
- Execution drawings as part of the delivery, not an optional extra
- A material schedule that names products available in Syria, with alternatives for each item
- An electrical plan that allows for backup power and the essential lighting circuits
- The number of site visits during the works
- How approvals are given in writing, especially for an owner living outside Syria
For the first meeting, bring the plan of the apartment or house if there is one, or rough measurements, photos of the rooms as they are, the number of people in the family and how they use the home, reference images of the style you like, and whether the works will start at once or in phases. With that, we can send a proposal with a defined scope instead of coming back with questions.
We always start with the 2D layout, because in an old Damascus home the layout is the most expensive decision. Opening a wall or moving a kitchen costs nothing to decide on paper, and costs a rebuild once the work is done.

Owners abroad, homes in Damascus
Many clients of an interior design company in Damascus live in the Gulf or in Europe and are preparing a home for the family or for their own return. The project runs the same way: our team in Damascus visits, measures and photographs the apartment or house, the layout and the 3D are presented on a video call, approvals are given in writing, and site visits during the works are recorded with photos and notes. An owner living in the UAE can also meet the team in Dubai while our colleagues in Damascus follow the work on site.

Questions Damascus clients ask
Can we meet you in Damascus?
Yes. We meet at your site or with our team in Damascus, and online for clients abroad.
Do you carry out the finishing work?
We are a design studio and do not carry out finishing. We give your contractor execution drawings, a material schedule and a BOQ, and review the work at agreed site visits. Because every contractor prices the same drawings, you can compare quotes line by line.
I live abroad. Can the project run remotely?
Yes. Reviews happen on video calls, you approve the layout and 3D online, and our Damascus team visits the site at the milestones set in the contract.
Do you design in a traditional Damascene style?
When the brief calls for it. We work with stone, inlaid wood and Islamic ornament, as in the Islamic-style majlis and office we designed for Green Valley, and just as readily in modern and classic-modern styles.
Do you design villa gardens and landscape?
Yes. Our commercial landscape in Damascus (2015) is one example, and we design villa gardens and courtyards with the same attention to shade, water and upkeep.
Do you work in Rif Dimashq and the other governorates?
Yes. As an interior design company in Damascus we extend site visits to Rif Dimashq, and projects in other governorates can be followed remotely after a first visit, or from plans and photos the owner sends.
How do you design around power cuts?
We split the lighting into separate circuits so the essential ones can run on backup power, choose low-consumption fittings, and place the batteries or solar panels in the electrical plan from the start, so they are not added later in plain view.
Can we start with one room?
Yes. Many clients start with the living room and the kitchen and finish the rest of the home in phases. We design the first phase so it fits with what comes after it.
Why choose Kenania as your interior design company in Damascus?
Because an interior design company in Damascus should hand you a design the finishing contractor can build without guessing. Our team in Damascus handles meetings and site visits, the wider studio adds 3D and detailing capacity, and the fee is fixed in writing before design starts.
